Ash-Shams · The Sun
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَاBy the sun and its brightnessوَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَاAnd [by] the moon when it follows itوَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَاAnd [by] the day when it displays itوَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَاAnd [by] the night when it covers [i.e., conceals] itوَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَاAnd [by] the sky and He who constructed itوَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَاAnd [by] the earth and He who spread itوَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَاAnd [by] the soul and He who proportioned itفَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَاAnd inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَاHe has succeeded who purifies it,وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَاAnd he has failed who instills it [with corruption].كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآThamūd denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَاWhen the most wretched of them was sent forth.فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَاAnd the messenger of Allāh [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allāh or [prevent her from] her drink."فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَاBut they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَاAnd He does not fear the consequence thereof.
الليل
Al-Layl · The Night
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰBy the night when it coversوَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰAnd [by] the day when it appearsوَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓAnd [by] He who created the male and female,إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰIndeed, your efforts are diverse.فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰAs for he who gives and fears Allāhوَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰAnd believes in the best [reward],فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰWe will ease him toward ease.وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰBut as for he who withholds and considers himself free of needوَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰAnd denies the best [reward],فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰWe will ease him toward difficulty.وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓAnd what will his wealth avail him when he falls?إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰIndeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance.وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰAnd indeed, to us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰSo I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing.
